My running journey

It all started in May when I watched a little bit of the marathon.. I had wanted to start running but just hadn't got my bottom into gear and got out of the door to do so. That's where the Couch to 5K app from the NHS came in. Back then I wrote a post about my training which you can read here.

On Sunday I ran my first race - a 5k hosted by Run Through in Battersea Park. It was a lovely morning for it, the sun was shining and it was set to be warm. Okay so perhaps not the most ideal conditions for my first race, but I'm not one to complain when it's sunny!

I was feeling nervous from the moment I woke up, but I suppose that's natural I've never done anything like this before. I was never hugely into sports at school and I'd never run any significant distance other than when I had to at school.

The Couch to 5k training app has been amazing for me in my journey to running. I really don't know if I would have got this far without it. I've gone from not being able run, to running 5K in less than 30 minutes in 12 weeks! Once I'd done the 9 week training program via the app. I just went for it alone, continuing to run 3 times a week and 'perfecting' my time. I also joined the gym, and I found that running on the treadmill really made me push myself.

My time was 28 minutes 19 seconds. I'm quite proud of my achievement as I never really thought I could do something like this. If I can do it anyone can...

  1. WOW! That is an AMAZING time, well done you! My first Park Run was a few months ago and I was about 1 minute slower than you and I really had to push myself at the end to get that time .. you've done so well! x

  2. Awesome Sarah! Great time! I am NOT a runner, but I admire anyone who can complete any race, let alone 5km. Hubby runs daily and can do 10km. I can't even fathom it. Well done, you!!
