Desserts Caffe, SW18

Those of you who know me well or have read this blog for a while will know I have a very sweet tooth. I just can't resist the sweeter things in life.

I'd kept a close eye on Twitter as soon as I spotted the account on Twitter.
Finally something was happening with an empty shop halfway down Garratt Lane. At last - it had been empty since (before) we first moved to Earlsfield in the Summer of 2012. A presence on Twitter is quite possibly vital in this day and age. Word of mouth is one thing, but I think the power of Twitter is another. I've definitely learned about many a new establishment via Twitter, so thank you. The Desserts Caffe have done a great job of getting themselves out there.

On the night of the 'soft launch' I'd walked past and been very tempted to go in, but I hadn't eaten dinner yet, so I promised to return.  I was very keen to visit, so found time the following week to do so. We were greeted by friendly staff and asked whether we wanted to eat in or takeaway. Now takeaway dessert there's an idea for you!

There's a large selection of desserts to try, and I have to say I was slightly overwhelmed by all the choice, so much so I'd missed the ice cream counter and the chance to admire the flavours. We sat down and I read through the menu. I liked the sound of the homemade waffles, and ended up going for this coconut & Oreo delight. The waffles were lovely, served warm. The portion was plentiful and topped with whipped cream and oreos and coconut ice cream. I loved the ice cream, I have to say I'm not a huge lover of whipped cream so I will have to read the menu more carefully next time. However I'd forgotton how yummy Oreos were.

The Boy went for an After Eight inspired Sundae which I did try and have to say was lovely. With chuncks of chocolate brownie, After Eights and tonnes of ice cream it was a very lovely match.

As our desserts were made the owner asked if we'd tried the ice creams yet, which we hadn't. So he gave us the low down of the flavours on offer. We tried a lovely bubblegum flavour, peanut butter and chilli and basil - it works, I promise!

At the time there weren't labels in the different ice creams so it was a little bit like guess work. But I've seen that there are now little labels telling you whats what. Great idea.

There's a huge variation of desserts to try including muffins, croissants and coffee so the Desserts Caffe could well be a new favourite for mid-morning coffee.

Find out more at their website but the best thing to do would be to get down to The Desserts Caffe and try it yourself!
