Brunch at Brickwood

I've been to Brickwood quite a few times now. And don't think I've yet blogged about it. Why ever not? I hear you say.

Brickwood is a beautiful green place, I am a fan of green, as a child it was my favourite. You'll find it at 16, Clapham Common South Side, just opposite Clapham Common Underground station - you can't miss it because of that refreshing shade of green. Quite simply advertised as 'Coffee & Bread'. However this should not be seen as an understatement. The coffee is great, lovely and smooth - beans are from Caravan. The bread from 'Bread, Bread' in Brixton, their sourdough features quite
heavily on the menu. Be prepared to enjoy...

A few weekends ago I went with a friend, we sat in the courtyard at the back which is a perfect little sun trap. It was literally quite sweltering, although technically that means it was uncomfortably hot - which it wasn't. We were brought water with the menus, and this certainly helped cool us down. The menu is attached to a piece of cardboard with a peg, I love the simplicity of it, and it's quite practical too.

We had a little peruse of the menu, the iced coffee (£3)  jumped out at me, perfect for a hot day, a dose of caffeine without drinking a hot cup of coffee. I have to say I do miss my cups of tea on hot days, I've never really got that thing that hot drinks actually cool you down, as I just don't enjoy hot drinks in hot weather.

The specials menu, also took my fancy in terms of food - the French Toasted Brioche, with a hint of orange & cinnamon with vanilla mascarpone. You can choose from poached maple or banana or streaky bacon, for £8.20. Or both for £9.90. Just banana for me, being veggie! I found the portion huge and couldn't actually mange all of the brioche, the banana melted in my mouth and the dish overall was amazing.

My friend opted for the Wild mushrooms and poached egg with basil pesto, balsamic, tarragon on Sour dough (£8.50) with a side of avocado. I've had this brunch dish before and can honestly say it's amazing. Am pleased to say she agreed too.

Our iced coffees were rather lovely, taking off the edge of the midday sun, blazing down on us! (I'm not complaining, honestly).

Brickwood is a firm favourite of mine.
However, it has come to my attention that many of my blogposts are focused on places in South West London, (naturally, it's my little quiet corner). However if you have any recommendations for Brunch north of the river, I'd love to hear them. I may just be feeling a little adventurous.
