Crumbs & Doilies and Bellevue Tea

I've seen the Crumbs & Doilies van driving around South West London and gotten rather excited however I've never had chance to try their cupcakes. Until today that is. We went to Bellevue Summer Fair, SW17 where I saw the stall and knew I had to try them. We wandered around a little enjoying the stalls, observing a little of the dog show and the boy had some free candy floss. There was a lovely village-y atmosphere about it.

What's in the box? You've guessed it. Cupcakes.

There was a huge selection to choose from and ever being the indecisive one I opted for a box of miniature cupcakes so I could try more than just one! The selection included vanilla, red velvet, chocolate, coffee, Jamaican gingerbread, salted caramel buttered popcorn. I couldn't wait to get home and try them.

I was really intrigued to try the popcorn cake, as I've not had one before. And also the salted caramel cupcake as this seems to be a big hit at the moment. I have to say I was slightly underwhelmed by the buttered popcorn cupcake (I was relieved I hadn't just chosen more large version). As I found it a slightly odd combination, which is a shame as it looks fantastic  But it just wasn't me. I think it was the contrast between the textures that didn't appeal.

Two of my favourites were the Jamaican gingerbread and red velvet (below).
The Jamacian Gingerbread was just different - I've not had a gingerbread cupcake before and the cream cheese frosting on top complemented the sponge very nicely. Topped with a piece of crystallised ginger. The Red Velvet was also equally as lovely. Unlike many it's not a flavour I would usually go for, but this one was particularly lovely, with a moist sponge and wonderfully smooth cream cheese frosting.

Then there were 6...

I was left with a few more to try (and don't worry I did share them the boy)! His favourite was the chocolate.

I love love love the fact you cant read all the ingredients of the individual cakes on the website here. Perfect for if you have any intolerances or allergies, but also very useful when looking into the cupcakes in more detail like I do. There's a whole host of other flavours that I'd like to try so it looks like I'll be visiting Crumbs & Doilies again.

Having bought my beautiful little box of cupcakes, and drooling over the rest (not literally I might add)! I popped to the next door stall. Bellevue Tea which would accompany my cupcakes perfectly. 'And now I need something to go with my cake' - I said. Much to the delight of Mr BellevueTea. :-)

I was very impressed by the service, I sampled a couple of the teas. And decided upon an Earl Grey. When I got home to sample the tea I was almost blown away by the taste.

A box of 25 individually wrapped tea bags was £2.50. I thought this was excellent value for money at 10p per bag. The quality of the tea is definitely the best Earl Grey I've tasted.

The owners Clare and Mike really know what they are talking about with 30 years experience in this field. In fact just writing this is making me crave another cup...
And as the box says: 'Kettle on? It's time for tea...'. I couldn't have put it better myself.

Thanks for reading. x
