Il Girasole

I often find myself going to a 'trusty' multi-chain Italian, eating the same sort of food over and over. So when I spotted a sign outside Il Girasole saying rated #1 restaurant in London on Trip Advisor I knew I needed to try it out.

The rankings seem to have changed some how in the past few weeks, and it now it says on the TripAdvisor website it's ranked #3 (of 12,127), either way this is a great result.

Il Girasole means the sunflower and I gather since the opening in August 2012 this restaurant has definitely brightened up the area.

The food:

We ordered a couple of Tomato bruschette to share (£4.50)

For main I chose one a the many vegetarian options -
Ravioli del Girasole con spinaci e ricotta al burro e salvia (£7.80)

There's also a whole pizza menu, but I'd read that the pasta is fresh and homemade and therefore far superior to what I often have, so I decided to go for something different.

This pasta dish was lovely, you just know the ingredients are fresh, and the chef loves what he's doing. The other two mains, were full of flavour and very enjoyable too.I then had tiramisu for pudding - which was again lovely.

We were all far too busy enjoying our food to take many more pictures, but hopefully this gives you an insight into what is on offer.

The food is just great and the prices are extremely reasonable especially for the fantastic quality. The staff are very friendly and attentive. There are lots of little Italian touches  that I just loved - little packets of bread sticks to start with, limoncello after pudding, and little almond biscotti brought out with the bill.

The only thing I can say, is I wholeheartedly recommend you visit. This place is a real hidden gem in the SW18 area. The website says Southfields, you may argue it's Wandsworth and maybe even Earlsfield but wherever you are ought pay a visit.

Very definitely competing for 'best Italian in London' I believe.
