Tea & Cake London, could be described as my bible, it's where I get many ideas for 'tea outings' along with 'Great Cake Places London, 2012'. However Orange Pekoe doesn't feature in the later. And it probably should.
You'll find Orange Pekoe () just a stones throw away from the River Thames, nestled in Barnes. Is a beautiful tea room, with plenty of outdoor seating, perfect for the sunny bank holiday. In fact it was so popular we had to sit inside!!!
The tearoom features a wall of tea caddies as you walk in, you know you are in for a treat.
The counter is on your right hand side with a large display of the fresh cakes, brownies and macaroons on offer daily. As we were eating in we perused the menu at our leisure - giving me time to investigate the numerous tea and coffees on offer.
I went for the Orange Pekoe Breakfast blend, taken from the classic collection. The tea was soft, smooth and light if I can possibly use those words to describe a pot of tea. The cup was almost like a small bowl, very dainty.
To accompany my lovely tea I chose a slice of carrot cake which was just lovely, although if I had any complaint it would be a little more cake. But it looks great just as it is.
The boy went for a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, which can only be described as a very large doorstep - brilliant value at £4.95. The service was great - the staff were very friendly and attentive.
If our experience today is anything to go by, afternoon tea at Orange Pekoe would be an afternoon very well spent!
I love the philosophy here and so I will leave you with that thought.
