Cox & Baloney

If you're after a vintage treat then Cox and Baloney is the place for you. I found this establishment through a simple google search for afternoon tea in Bristol. Cox and Baloney looked different, it's nice to go somewhere with lots of character and Cox and Baloney has a beautiful vintage theme.

As a birthday treat for a friend I'd booked a table for 3. The table was laden with 'mismatched' vintage tea cups and tea pots. When I say mismatched, it's obviously completely intentional and exactly how it should be in a vintage tearoom. The atmosphere of the tea room is lovely and the fire was crackling away in the corner.

We had 'Dotty's Afternoon Tea' which is a 'high tea', consisting if sandwiches (we had brie and cranberry and cheddar and chutney), a selection of cakes AND scones. Perfect! The portion size was very generous, but we had plenty of time to enjoy it and not rush.

The tea to accompany was just as good, and very tasty. We tried 'Granny's Garden' (Elderberry, apple & hibiscus). 'Catherine of Braganza' (Peach and white apricot tea). And a strawberry brew as well. I always find (fruit) teas smell a lot nicer than they taste. But this selection was very tasty.

Our selection of cakes included lavender, chocolate with a hint of coffee, lemon and also apple crumble cake. All of which were lovely. And of course you can't have afternoon tea without Scones, clotted cream and jam. Ours were topped with fresh strawberries, which were very juicy and complimented the scones very well, especially considering the time of year!

The staff were very attentive and very informative telling us all about the teas and how long to infuse them for. The afternoon tea was very reasonably priced.

I really enjoyed this afternoon tea experience and would recommend it highly.
