So here we have it another slightly damp Bank Holiday Monday (is it really a surprise)?! This morning, out came 'Tea & Cake London' for some further inspiration, there's so many beautiful tearooms and cupcake establishments to explore, it's just deciding where to go next that is the problem. After flicking through several times, Bea's of Bloomsbury was chosen as this 'Monday's Special'.
We got the tube to Holborn, and then just a 7 minute walk away we found Bea's. Bea's of Bloomsbury is located on Theobalds Road. Slightly underwhelming from the outside, luckily we managed to find it. In the window you can just about see the design of Bea's of Bloomsbury. But stepping inside all you can see is Bea's beautiful cupcakes.
Here's my beautiful cupcake, Chocolate Vanilla Cupcake. Decorated with a juicy raspberry, blackberry and blueberry. So how was it?
Well... The sponge was perfect. But the icing was even perfect-er (perhaps a new word)!! I had to ask what sort of icing it was, because I've never had anything quite like it. Coincidentally I think I spoke to the Head Pastry Chef (felt slightly like a food geek or critic for doing so, but they say if you don't ask you don't get *to find out*)!! The icing was a Vanilla Meringue Butter Cream icing one word: WOW! You could see the tiny black specks, of the vanilla pod, they use a nice vanilla paste)!! I accompanied this with a pot of English Breakfast (told you I wasn't very adventurous when it comes to tea)!!
The boy went for this beauty : Vanilla Cupcake with a Strawberry Icing & a strawberry slice.
Once again I felt myself questioning my choice, he does seem to have a superior ability to choose the better cake, we always order something different, but at least this way I get to try two!!!
I picked up a few little postcards from Bea's I have to say I love the Mailing List mini postcard, which doubles up as a loyalty card, and when you've collected 10 stamps you get a free cupcake or brownie (not a bad deal at all)!!!
I really like this place, the atmosphere was probably helped by Florence and the Machine playing when we sat down. (I love Florence)! There were plenty of staff around, and they were very attentive. I would say Bea's is perhaps not as quaint and girly as some of the other cupcake establishments, but hey, if we all had pink decor it would all get very boring! :-)
